Biggest major label debacles

I don't know the whole story but Murder Inc (the Killing Joke/Chris Connelly band) had some messiness with a major I think. I remember them remixing the record which sounded fine (Steve recorded I believe) and changing the track order and it just sinking like a stone once re-released on whatever bigger label.

I don't know if this qualifies as a "good" band or not but...
The Campfire Girls were signed to Interscope for a bunch of dough back in 1995. They built a really nice home studio and made a record and a half. The label put out an EP and then the band broke up due to junkie-ness.

8 years later, even though the band was pretty much still signed they signed them again. And spend half a million making a big silly record with Dave Sardie. Then interscope failed to promote it at all and dropped them like 6 weeks after the record came out.

Why? Cause they are insane corporate asswipes and seemed to just want to throw money away.

butthole surfers. though they started going downhill before they got onto a major label. the major label just closed the deal.

the fall when they got onto matador (a major label by the fall's standards), which at the time was taking infusions from capitol or atlantic, or both. although i really like "the infotainment scan."
