Biggest major label debacles
32Sonic Youth is the obvious one but they were pretty bland before they signed.
Another one? How about Helmet?

Bad Moon Rising is bland?
Helmet, though - yes, a true major label debacle.
One that I know most people won't care about here is the Roots' first major-label album, Do You Want More?!?!
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

34Helmet were successful, they sold a shitload of that record and still tour around today on that hype.
SY were also successful, they are still touring and making records.

35stone roses.
1. one brilliant album.
2. one excellent comp of b-sides.
3. 5 years of fighting between themselves, silvertone, and geffen.
4. one terrible album.
5. break up.

37Dishwalla was like the greatest hardcore/grind/experimental band ever until they signed with a major.
Then they toured with Queensryche, watched Jeff Tate blow a couple dudes and then put out "Pet Your Friends". Which still was pure heavy black metal, but by heavy I mean styrophome dumbells heavy.
Just for the record, Queensryche is gayer than Dishwalla.
