Never seen Glengarry Glen Ross, don't know a thing about it (I've heard of it and that's all). I take it that I should?

kickass movie's all i know. i've always wanted to say:

"These are the new leads. These are the Glengarry leads. And to you they're gold, and you don't get them. Why? Because to give them to you would be throwing them away. They're for closers."

to our soundman at shows, in my alec baldwin voice.

I should mention I went to see Public Enemy with Bradley R Weissenberger and Rodabod last night and it was fantastic.

Great show and also immense chuckles from watching Brad's reaction to the smoking ban (he's not a fan) and eventually being asked by security to remove his cap ( "I'm an American!" ). Also, much love to Roddy for putting me up for the night and sharing his booze.

Tommy, how come you didn't tell him ahead of time to never admit to being American?

Canadian, okay, but never American!

Am I the only one having trouble picturing Mr. Weissenberger at a Public Enemy show?

See the movie. Then, if you can, see the play. I'm sendspacing a radio production done by the BBC and directed by Mamet himself. Check the sendspace thread in about an hour.

It was at a very tiny theatre called Red Barn, which seats only 40 people. AMAZINGLY WELL DONE. Best I've ever seen it. Perfectly punctuated, the alternation between hilarious and heartbreaking was perfectly executed and completely seamless.

I've frequently used the Baldwin lines from Glengarry Glen Ross in conversation.

You know why? 'Cause you drove a Hyundai to get here tonight, I drove an eighty thousand dollar BMW. THAT'S my name.

Nice guy? I don't give a shit. Good father? Fuck you! Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here - close! You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cocksucker?

I married an actress, and as a result, have gained admission to a strange world where amazingly talented people commit to performing Great Art in small spaces holding less than 100 people over and over again, for nearly zero money (and no bar tab! WHY would anyone do this?).

Occasionally, she works in big theatres with thousands of people watching, but the large part of her work is performed to audiences smaller than those attending rock shows.

With a few exceptions, most of these performances are transcendental.

It makes EVERYTHING on TV seem a little more tawdry after having seen so many great theater productions.

Chicago is a great town for this- I saw "Around the World in 80 Days" at the Lifeline Theatre up on the North Side for less than it costs to eat at Kumas, and it was phenomenal. Besides alll of the Pho places at the Argyle El stop, live theatre every weekend is the only thing I miss about Chicago.

I know that you run the risk of seeing crap staged by the "Look at ME!" Homosexual Drama Axis every time you put money down for live theatre, yes. But there are often insightful reviews in the Reader of all of the shows running at any given time.

See some theater.
