My folks do this during the winter and about a month in the summer. They're on their third RV, the last two each were bigger and classier than my first couple apartments. They've been to all the contiguous 48 states and met a lot of friends along the way.

My godparents sold their house a few years ago and strictly live out of their RV while their health is still good. When they sold their home, they had a garage sale. Much didn't sell. My godmother gave me this advice: Don't stay in one place too long. You just accumulate a bunch of useless crap that no one will want.

Not Crap. WF: The überwealthy who tow their double-decker trailers with their sailboats and Jaguars really should just buy a vacation home.

My buddy and his girlfriend just embarked on one of these trips. They sold everything(amazing amount of records) and bought a medium size RV and a compact car. They tow the car. They left in February and are still going strong. They do a lot of "rough camping" as they call it, i.e. no electricity or water hookups and usually stay put for a few weeks at a time.

I wish I could do that shit when I turned 40 or rather had the balls to drop everything and give up on urban living for a long stint.
