I'm looking for a general purpose condenser that doesn't get shrill or overly crispy at high spl. Vocal duty would be a big bonus.

How does the Josephson e22S fare on vocals, specifically louder shouty male rock vocals?

SDC can work well on vocals. There is no law that says you have to use a LDC. The capsule police won't come a knocking. But be careful to use proper popper stoppage as the SDC will over react to plosives.

For louder shouty males I usually put them on a LDD like an SM7. M88 or RE20.
