Black Rice was a good move for him. I can also assume that you Know Jack Duckworth from A Luna Red and Radio Berlin.

I don't know Jesse, but hung out with Stuart while he mastered our record. Stuart told me that my vocals sounded just like Jesse's in DBS. Ha ha! Don't know Jack too well, but talked to him a couple times when I was trying to book A Luna Red in Bellingham a few years back.
Police Teeth: we like Void so much, we decided not to sound like them.

as a avid music fan, I haven't been a huge part of the scene in Vancouver, but I did sit down one night and actually listen to a lot of the newer artists in my fair city

whats depressing is a good 90% of them are really really boring.

theres really barely anything happening in my city, anything decent has died or formed other bands who are just plain boring.

I dunno

I've found thats it's also fucking hard to start any kind of band in this city, people are really lazy and pathetic I've found, and once I actually find members, nobody seems to want to actually go out and practice.

I can't agree more about the scene in Vancouver. My band went through so many line-up changes that it made me think of quitting everything and doing the DIY thingy at home. Drummers are quite a commodity and I've reverted to playing them although I was playing guitar/vocals in my current project. 12 songs chucked 'cause we can't find a drummer who's not in three other bands or has no dedication.

Does anyone remember 'Scratch Records' when it was a cool store? Jeez, I went in there to buy a Tape-Op and came across the most snotty bitch at the till. The scensters in Vancouver bug the hell out of me! Nobody is stoked on music anymore, and it's really bringing the scene down.

The venues in Vancouver are kinda hurtin' too... I never thought that I'd say it, but I like Pub340 and Pat's pub. I've never had a bad show in either places, and it was FUN. The Pic can have it's moments too.

I REALLY miss the Starfish room.

Richards on Richards has a horrible sounding room.

Anyways... My belly-aching does nothing. I'm just gonna continue doing what I'm doing with my basement studio. We've got our own band room and can record our practices. My girlfriend can play a mean bass (a bit unfortunate 'cause it MY favorite instrument) and we've got 24 tracks worth of digital (24bit) recording. No, it's not tape, but I'm stoked on what I've got.

scenesters in vancouver are fucking depressing, they bring me down so considerably that it sucks living here.

the town also has this huge hate for touring artists, as they have to pay a good chuck of their money JUST to stop here

we are a greedy boring crack town called Vancouver.

I've honestly wanted to start a band since I was 18, I'm 20 now and I'll probably still be bitching about this when 25 rolls around. I just want to start rebuilding a scene in this city that once was really strong from what I hear.
