The dearth in LSD seems to be a nationwide and potentially worldwide phenomenon. Back in the US, I would only come across it once a year or so (and I was always in the market for it), a state which lasted nearly ten years. I didn't come across any at all in 2001-2003.
Out here in Europe, the situation is even worse. You can't find it anywhere. In a large geographic region where illegal raves in the countryside go unchecked and people stay up raging for 5 days at a time, you'd think there would be a marked for acid and manufacturers would step up to address the demand.
But all you can pretty much get in the field of psychedelics is shrooms. Needless to say, X dominates the scene. Fuck, I've met so many raver types who regularly ingest all manner of drugs, ketamine, pervitine, coke and even heroin for the afterward chill-out party. Most of these people have never done, let alone seen LSD, although the drug would be much better suited to their purposes than a ton of X plus a cocktail of various powders.
So, what do you attribute this overall drought in acid to? Supposedly, it's not that hard for a trained chemist to mainufacture if he can get ahold of the precurors.
Is it simply that the various national governments have made it practically impossible to get the precursors, or is there more to it than that?
Is it possible that there are not many manufacturers left and that the main acid labs supplying the world have been busted (I personally can't fathom this, but it's possible...).
Or does it have more to do with the drug market? That it's not cost-effective enough, not conducive to repeat business the way coke and speed are, or that there's simple a lack of demand (the latter seems unlikely).
