I like stuff by both bands, so I was surprised.

Likewise... Before hearing this recording I was banking on this particualr meeting of the minds yielding some of the coolest new music in the world. So imagine my disappointment.

Yeah, at the time I LOVED both bands and couldn't figure out how this could have gone wrong.

I think that the concept behind the project was that it was supposed to be a pretty spontaneous affair. Which might have worked in Tortoise's favor but perhaps not for The Ex. This is just a guess. Also, not all personalities mesh well together.

I couldn't believe how quickly I sold this item back. I don't think that I owned it for more than a few months. But I really wanted to love it.

overwhelmingly forgettable.

Yeah, that's true. They didn't have much time to work on it, and they hadn't written any of the material beforehand, presumably. SO, while they are responsible for their own music, they should be let off easy.

Nothing wrong with an honest failure, other than the fact that I don't wanna hear it (I have the exact same attitude toward my own misfires, and why wouldn't I?).

One of the several excellent guitarists or bassists could have played a decent line. Then one of the several excellent drummers could have played a decent beat. They could have written some decent shit in 5 fucking minutes, you would think. They are all professional musicians who are more than capable.
This did not happen for some reason. It's all scattered, piddly noodling, makes no sense.
