Yeah, that's true. They didn't have much time to work on it, and they hadn't written any of the material beforehand, presumably. SO, while they are responsible for their own music, they should be let off easy.

Nothing wrong with an honest failure, other than the fact that I don't wanna hear it (I have the exact same attitude toward my own misfires, and why wouldn't I?).

One of the several excellent guitarists or bassists could have played a decent line. Then one of the several excellent drummers could have played a decent beat. They could have written some decent shit in 5 fucking minutes, you would think. They are all professional musicians who are more than capable.
This did not happen for some reason. It's all scattered, piddly noodling, makes no sense.

Aye. I wonder if the bands in question would agree.

It be cool if they gave it another go.

Come on, legends: do my bidding.

I'd say that there was no way anyone could temper their expectations on this record. This was one you had to buy no matter what. The Ex and Tortoise together? No way were you leaving that on the shelf. So, naturally there was bound to be disappointment. Especially if you were an indie rocker and 99% of the records you bought were non-improvisational and then you bought your first quasi-improvisational collaboration by two of your favorite bands. Which is exactly what happened to me at the time. But it's important to remember that this was muiscally an 'experiment', in the truest sense of the word, as is the entire Fishtank series, and should be ingested with that in mind.

Not Crap for it's vision.
