Hey Tim!
Did you actually think this thread was over?
Hey Tmidgett
472Hey tmidgett-
Don't you guys in "The Bottomless Pit" have a show tonight with The Effigies in Highwood at some bowling alley? I've been trying to figure out how to get there for a couple days. How much does it cost? What time is the show?
Any advice?

how i envy you chicagoans sometimes! which means like on a weekly basis
Hey Tmidgett
476T-Money,
Are you going to have t-shirts for sale at the July 18th show in Madison w/ The Kadane Brothers?

477Also: The Buffalo Springfield. That's good.
Agreed.
Hi Tim! Thanks for fielding all these.
Sure.
I was wondering if you've heard the version of "Sister Ray" that was on the VU Gymnasium thread. Sterling Morrison's really tearing it up, isn't he? I really never hear him mentioned on these pages. Why is that?
I just got this record in the mail, but I've only listened to side one so far. It is really good.
Sterling Morrison was a great guitar player. His playing on that record, side one at least, is terrific.
I think he is overlooked in the same sense that Tom Verlaine is considered the go-to guy in Television, even though Richard Lloyd plays an awful lot of the best parts. Lou Reed and Tom Verlaine both sing, and it seems most like they are the the frontmen, playing guitar.
Plus I don't get the sense that Sterling Morrison gave a shit if anyone knew who he was.
You're just full of disappointments, aren't you.
Yep!
You've mentioned that you used to own an Ovation Magnum. Did you ever record with it?
There's a little low-level bass on the last song on It'll Be Cool. Or last two songs, depending on how you count them. Anyway, I played it on that/those song/s. It sounded best on them out of anything I tried.
I sold it b/c the only thing it did better than my Wedge bass is super deep bass, and I am very used to playing the Wedge. I already have an Ampeg scroll bass that is great for super deep bass. Magnums are real good basses, though.
Also, how do you feel about Thomas Pynchon? I've just finished reading V., and I feel like I need to read it again. I felt the same way about Gravity's Rainbow, but I enjoyed that one a lot more.
I only finished GR. I liked it a lot when I read it. I couldn't get through any of the other books, for whatever reason. I got that reading-as-chore thing from them and dropped off.

Yes, yes, I did.

We do have this show tonight. I am very much looking forward to it.
Google "alley highwood il" and it should come up. The venue, at least. I don't think you'll find too much info about the show, even on their site.
You can take Metra there, but the trains stop running at 11pm on the way back. So you could train it and then throw yourself on the mercy of any Chicagoan with a car. Otherwise, it's a long bike ride or a medium-long car ride.
The Wraybands website says it starts at 9 with a $7 cover.
Sounds about right.
We play second, incidentally. I thought we were first, but we're second. Probably 10pm start for us, though of course I encourage you to show up in time to see the Wraybands.
For me, the main difference between this show and other shows we might play is that I get to see the Effigies. And it's in a bowling alley.
Tim, does disco really suck? I appreciate your input.
I don't think disco sucks at all. In my experience, most people who think disco sucks are big Eagles fans.
A selection of good disco:
Chic
Boney M
Silver Convention
Sylvester
Several tracks by Odyssey
Handful of Donna Summer songs
I would vouch for KC and the Sunshine Band, by and large
Mmmmm, probably Kool and the Gang, all told
Hot Chocolate, if Cicero Park is disco
ABBA's disco stuff
Sat Night Fever soundtrack (great record)
A shitload of singles including:
Love Hangover
Fly Robin Fly
Shame Shame Shame (Shirley and Co.)
Heartbeat (Taana Gardner)
Ring My Bell
I Will Survive
Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough
etc. etc.
T-Money,
Are you going to have t-shirts for sale at the July 18th show in Madison w/ The Kadane Brothers?
Yes, and probably a new EP.

I'd read GR first, and it made me a Pynchon fan, but he tends to fall back on certain schticks quite a lot. There are enjoyments to be derived from the other books, but when you've seen the same moves a bunch of times before in GR or elsewhere, it's easy to get turned off. That is to say, he's a very schticky writer sometimes.
Hey Tmidgett
479Tim: how's your bowling? What other games and sports have you played in a satisfying way?
P.S. Last Chicago-bound train goes through Highwood at 12:16 a.m. tonight.

480Quick, dumb question for the Tmidgett:
Does your middle name begin with an 'i'? Because if it did, your initials would be TIM. Pretty awesome, huh?
I promise you, I'm not stoned right now.
