RIP Tim Russert

I took a lengthy break from posting on here, and I still wouldn't describe myself as a "regular." I missed those threads.

Besides, why - with my already-stated stance on remarking on death - would I click on threads with those titles? "Rot in hell"? That's a lost cause from the start, the way I see it.

I know what it's like Rick, you were excited on Friday about the weekend and everything it could bring.
Maybe you'll go to a bar and meet that special someone. Maybe you'll go crazy and get drunk and surf on top of a car. Maybe there'll be a house party. Maybe you'll get laid.
Then the weekend happens, it's the same as last weekend and on Sunday evening you've got work to think of the next day. Yeah, work. Damn it!
You're angry and fired up. I understand. It's fine. Like I've said before to you, a lot of us are on your side.

What? That doesn't make sense Rick...

That's a weird double/triple negative.

I'd say that's one of the best ways to die. No months or years of lingering, no watching your family and friends go through the agony of your slow decay, no rage and fear about what's on the horizon ... he had a good time in Europe, saw his son though a happy milestone in his life, and then -- boom. The end. There are a lot worse ways to go than that, friends.

I wasn't that big on the man's political alliances, but I never got the impression he was the seed of evil like a lot of right-wing folks in the media. I wasn't a fan, but I thought he came off like a decent, reasonably intelligent guy. I can think of a lot of people who deserved the fate of dying at 58 far more than he did.

It's not too late to add that advice to this thread:
Milton Friedman- rot in hell

OK. Consider it done. Only I am not going to call Justin a douchebag.

It's awful form to piss on someone's grave.

You know, come to think about it, I've had far less of my share of dealing with death than most my age. So I've been lucky in that regard and it's probably less than empathetic to glory in anyone else's demise. Forget what my hate says about them, it doesn't say good things about me.

So I'll skip on the rot in hell threads from now on. (Even for Kissinger! And Sandy Weil. And Jake Selechnik.) I obviously enjoy writing them. But I'll reason that there's a good lesson to teach yourself in NOT spending the time to revel in a stranger's death. Even if they have scuttled their own humanity by denying the value of other people, I don't need to do the same thing by posting vitriol that would rightly be hurtful to those who may have cared for the deceased. Sure, there's no chance that Friedman's grandkids troll this message board, but that's no real excuse. So, I'll stop.

Tim, I appreciate your not calling me a douchebag.

Oh, and hating Tim Russert? Give me a break. Mainstream media is pretty scuzzy, sure. But this guy is far down on the list of people to HATE. I mean, really - write a list of the worst people in the world and Tim Russert won't even be on it because you'll be too busy writing out other people's names.
