Of course he will. And you'll continue to tell us that he doesn't take corporate money and PAC money.

Hillary Clinton relied on old ways of fundraising and politicking and was defeated. Not even a kitchen sink, George W. Bush-type campaign could save her.

It's the small donors that helped Obama blow her corporate fundraising advantage out of the water.

polifact.com (a service of the St. Petersburg Times/CQ) wrote:Jen Psaki, campaign spokeswoman, defends the distinction between federal and state lobbyists. "Federal lobbyists lobby the federal government on legislation that Senator Obama has jurisdiction over - which is why he does not accept their money. State lobbyists lobby the state government on legislation that Barack Obama has no jurisdiction over - which is why he accepts their money."

The other big element in Obama's stand against the world of special interests is his refusal to take PAC money. While this may be noble, experts say it isn't much of a sacrifice.

Massie Ritsch, Communications Director for the Center for Responsive Politics, says it is not particularly risky to eschew PAC money since it "amounts to only about 1 percent of the money in any presidential campaign. So you're not leaving a whole lot of money on the table when you say 'I'm not taking PAC money.'"

polifact.com wrote:Obama acknowledges that his pledge has loopholes.

He told the Associated Press recently that he swims "in the same muddy water" that corrupts the political system. "My argument is not that we're perfect," he says. "I suffer from the same original sin of all politicians, which is we've got to raise money. But my argument has been and will continue to be that the disproportionate influence of lobbyists and special interests is a problem in Washington (and) in state capitals."

And finally:

polifact.com wrote:The nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics has a broad definition of lobbyist money that includes contributions from spouses of lobbyists. By its reckoning, Obama has received $115,163 in money from lobbyists based on data released on March 20, 2008.

Is it possible that Barack Obama took "a dime" from someone connected to oil and gas lobbyists? Yes. But it looks as if Obama took good-faith measures not to accept money from current lobbyists for any industry, including oil and gas. For these reasons, we find his statement Mostly True.

So there you go.

I agree there is a good chance this might happen.

Like Tim I was discussing this with my wife..but earlier today. That the positioning of neo-cons and neo-libs is placing Barack Obama in just such a way that this will likely be a blowout election. A walk-through.

McCain exiting at the 11th hour would just ice that cake.

Here's the thing though, fellas:

If McCain drops out in say...August...then some other dude has three months to build up a sufficient organization with their own people...their own money...their own coherent message. Elections aren't won based on the strength of some new contender's character...they have to be effective machines with butt-tons of planning involved. Obama will have been campaigning for practically two years by that point.

Obama's attacks and his message are fairly versatile--even if the GOP tried the old switch-a-roo. It's not too hard to link any Republican with Bush...only Hagel can avoid this with some level of effectiveness, and even he would get fucked up by the Obama people anyway.
