you want a pavement replacement? listen to chicago's number one cup. they put out three records, light years beyond. "possum trot plan" is a masterpiece. it's nothing like pavement, besides, being poppy. this band ruled, but unlike pavement (which I do like) I don't really get tired of it. It just racks my brain how they went so unnoticed.

on topic: I really like emotional trash, I haven't heard anything else of his solo work. I hate how people hate on this guy, one of my friends said he couldn't stand malkmus anymore, I wanted to say... well, buy a fucking crash symbol, because I cant stand your drumming any longer.

that could go in the the post when yer drunk thread.

crash cymbals are lame.

what happened to malkmus's music was that it was made by malkmus.

no they're not. his cymbal sounds like a garbage lid, this isn't a jazz session as far as I'm concerned.

These two points are exactly why his show at the Vic sucked so hard. Hell, I think even SM must've been bored playing that show. That and I think every one of his songs had the same tempo and really similar structures. I've been to a couple really boring shows this year, but this was the boring-est.

I like his post-pavement work...

My native language is not English, so it doesn't make any diference whether he sings obscenities or sings silly lyrics. I always pay more attention, melody, energy and rhythm of the syllables than the meaning of the words.

This is one of the reasons why some American artists who are usually ignored in the US because of lyrical content have a bigger following in europe. Over here we don't worry much about lyrical content, because it's not our native language. If Malkmus was singing in Portuguese, then I might think differently.

Hi,

I really liked Pavement and his post Pave stuff has it's moments.

His Dead-Head classic/acid rock side is coming through more than the Fall/Swell Maps/VU stuff of Pavement. That's probably part of why it doesn't resonate like the Pavement stuff.

Also his lyrics make 'sense' which isn't good either. 'Hopscotch Willie' is embarassing but 'Real Emotional Trash' is an epic jam.....man.
