First of all, hello all, I'm new to Electrical.
I've been a reader for quite a while, mainly of the Crap/Not Crap forum and was pointed in this direction originally by forum user and old workmate cjh.

So, for my first post, the nasal yet quite lovely Bon Iver. Mellowing my ears nicely over the past couple of weeks.

Hi Podge9

You know it's customary to ask Steve something first. You can't just go posting willy nilly anywhere without enquiring about microphones or summat like that.

I've only heard a couple of songs of Bon Iver - they were ok. But each time they were followed by someone telling how he hid out in the woods and killed to eat for months in order to record the album. I think he needs to get his PR to chill out.

Fuck, that PR thing drives me nuts, the story about holing up in a cabin in NW Wisconsin..

Well guess what? I lived in NW Wisconsin too. It was one mile to get to our mailbox, 25 miles to town, which had 2500 people.

How come I don't wear flannel and have a beard and sing wistful songs?

I have a cabin in even farther NW Wisconsin. Perhaps I should "hole up" in it with my Acoustic Guitar and pen heartfelt jack-pine savage ballads reflecting my Up North Backwoods Heritage.

I don't like what I've heard, as far as "Bon Iver" goes.

based on what zom-zom's said, it sounds entirely too precious which entails a suckitude about it usually...

I'm 6/80ths the way to #1.

This is only the second third I've heard mention of them. The first was when my best friend asked me if I'd heard of them because his band was going to be opening for them. The second was when a bandmate asked if I had heard of them, or mentioned something about them, I forget because I immediately said "yeah, that's that band that Mike's band just opened for!"

Mike said they were cool, and in talking with them he confirmed my suspicion that their name is derived from French, "Bon Hiver". They spelled it the way they do because if there was an H in the beginning there would be no chance any English-speakers would pronounce it correctly, which is with a silent H as is the French way.

Hey, my best friends band got to open for them and play a totally packed show, so that's good. I've not heard a single word of press or PR or whatever, so I have no opinion other than "best friend said they were nice".
"The bastards have landed"

www.myspace.com/thechromerobes - now has a couple songs from the new album
