That's what it has done today, but over the past week or so, it has gone to blue screen with an driver error. I can't figure out which driver it is though.

What would be the cause of a service changing to user account from a local service or a network service account?

I loath all things MS with such an immense passion that I loath myself for participating in the filth.
I must admit, I am scared to make the transition. It's an illogical fear because I don't doubt my abilities in terms of figuring it out, but for some reason, I am worried about it.
I have 4 different computers, I should really just put it on one of them and see how it goes. One issue I think I might have is I am a bit of a software freak and the choices are kind of limited with Linux aren't they? Or is that completely illogical as well? =)

The choices are different, and in some ways limited.

But there are free, open-source alternatives to pretty much all the major commercial Windows programs. And if you really have to run the occasional Win32 app, you can most likely do it within Linux via Wine (the Windows emulator).

My advice would to be to check out the Ubuntu and Kubuntu distros. Download and burn yourself the Ubuntu and Kubuntu Live CDs and try out both variations. (A "Live CD" is a bootable CD which you can use to run Linux for evaluation purposes, without having to install it on your hard drive). You won't be able to run all the available programs, but it's good for getting a feel for the OS while also making sure all your computer's hardware will run properly under that Linux distribution. If everything works fine and you like the distro, then there's an option for you to install it from the Live CD.

Decide which distro you like better, then install it on one of your computers. You don't have to completely give up on using Windows on that machine; you can very easily set up a "dual-boot" machine that allows you to choose at startup time which OS you want to boot into--either Linux or Windows.

That way, if you really need or want to run a Windows app (or game or something like that) you can restart the machine and boot into Windows just for that purpose. Linux can read your Windows filesystem, so you can still have access to all the files on your Windows partition from within Linux.
