If they're aiming to be a face-melting rock band, and you were using this name to tell them that they don't actually melt faces, then it's mean. If they're not trying to be super-brutal, then there's nothing mean about it. "Mellow" is a relative term. A stampede that's mellow would still wreak a lot of havoc, it just wouldn't make heads explode like a PCP stampede would.

Nothing wrong with it, unless they're trying really hard to not be mellow. And then, shit, if they're going out of their way trying really hard to not be something that they can't escape being, they got bigger problems than a song title.

I think it's just great. Next time they ask, tell them "Shitbutt". That's the best answer to pretty much every question there is.

"Look, I've talked it over with the guys and we're going to need 'Mellow Stampede' for Shellac's next album title, so I'm taking it back. Sorry. No further discussion please. Title denied. NO! ENOUGH! Title DENIED!".

This will make you look even meaner whilst performing an act of de-meaning, thus earning thousands of karma points.
I walk these streets, a loaded six-string on my back.
