Pussy Galore did this with 'exile on main st.'
The Walkmen recently did the same with Harry Nilsson's 'pussy cats'
Any others?..
I'm not sure why, but I think it's a beautiful idea. Not crap.
Idea: a track-by-track cover of another old-classic record
2People can do whatever they want, it wouldn't be impossible for something like this to turn out cool.

3NOT CRAP, and even moreso if this record counts.

4Not Crap. It could give great results. I'm sure a lot of bands whose own musical output is good could make a decent record with this idea the same way that awful bands would make awful cover records.
Anyway, I'm more interested in the idea of making an anti-tribute album fixing songs of a band you hate.

5Boris the Sprinkler covered all of Group Sex by the Circle Jerks and managed to make it even shorter, which i think is pretty cool.

I've been doing this sporadically.

8Probably more fun to do this yourself than to listen to someone else's.

9Camper Van Beethoven released their version of Fleetwood Mac's Tusk a few years ago, supposedly from tapes they made during their mid-80s heyday. The execution wasn't near as cool as the idea of it, but there were moments.
I've always thought that it would be cool to do, as your encore, the first three songs of classic records. None of your own songs, but have a repetoire of maybe twenty albums to draw upon.

10Good (total scorched-earth devastation of rock and roll classique): Pussy Galore's Exile on Main St.
Bad (actually, cool idea ruined cause the band sucks): Phish's "Halloween" live records
It could probably be done well. I do think doing a live cover set of an entire album on Halloween is actually a damn cool idea; too bad Phish stinks.
