My feelings for Terence Stamp are neutral and I think that this is an excellent example. As soon as I read the words "The Seeker" I thought of this film.

(I also remember an entertaining use of Steppenwolf in The Limey as well, but I cannot place it. I should see this film again.)

Not strictly a 'song' in the sense that we're talking here, and not strictly a great film, but it does the job and it does the job well:

Wagner's Prelude and Love-Death from Tristan and Isolde at the beginning of Ivans XTC.

As RIII has stolen in with a little rule-break, I'll take this opportunity to post the haunting main theme to Le Mépris by Georges Delerue, which is also used to great effect in Casino. Not a song, but some of you might like it.

The use of "what a difference a day makes" in Run Lola Run/Lola rennt at the end of (i think) the first sequence is pretty sweet.

The pace of the film is driven by all the music. At that point, everything is going pearshaped in slow mo. Classy.

I'd also give an honourable mention to "Stand By Your Man" at the end of the Crying Game.

"A Waltz for A Night" by Julie Delpy and Nina Simone's "Just in Time" at the end of Before Sunset.

"In Dreams" in Blue Velvet. And, I suppose, "Blue Velvet" in Blue Velvet.

"Blue Moon" in Mystery Train.

And while we're on the theme of moons, although Breakfast at Tiffany's is pretty overrated, the scene in which Audrey Hepburn sings "Moon River" on her balcony just slays me.

Not a fan of a song, the singer or even this version of the film (well i like it, but the original is better I think) but the use of Que Sera Sera in the remake of The Man Who Knew Too Much is a great example of a seemingly tacked on song being perfectly integrated into the plot of a film.

Dazed and Confused also uses several songs absolutely perfectly: "Sweet Emotion" in the opening sequence, "Tuesday's Gone" as the party in the woods draws to a close, "Slow Ride" as Wooderson and crew drive off to pick up Aerosmith tickets. That entire movie should be screened to film students to demonstrate how to use pop songs as a soundtrack, to avoid that whole mixtape-as-soundtrack crap that Cameron Crowe uses.
