Set the channel-locks so they are slightly wider than the tubing. slide them underneath the bracket and give the channel-locks a few shots of "the persuader". Several light taps should do it.

a heat gun or hair dryer could work. maybe in combination with the channel locks

If you have a vice you could try clamping the part you want to get off and turning the whole rack for super leverage.

reminds me of trying to get a bicycle seat post unstuck.

Nah, I have only myself to blame for being overzealous with the mallet 12 years ago.

After a morning on the phone to Metro, I have discovered several things:

1) The part is called a split-post connector.
2) They don't sell them separately to consumers.
3) They don't sell them separately to consumers because you are not supposed to "stack" posts too high, because it unbalances the units. So using one of these 33 inch posts to add another shelf to my 66 inch shelving unit is not advised.
4) However, they do make shorter posts.
5) If i order the shelving parts I need from Metro, I have to pay a $39 fee
because that is what they charge for orders under $325.

Maybe it would just be better for me to order yet another fucking unit.

One day, perhaps this week, I will laugh about this futile attempt to free my life from clutter.

EDIT: Feel free to harass me about this futile attempt in person if you ever meet me. The laughs will never end.
I make music/I also make pretty pictures
