Hello all, I work as an AV tech in the UK and last month was doing a job in a health spa where an investment company was holding its annual dinner. After the food, they began by showing clips of previous dinners, whose speakers included Bill Clinton and Seinfeld, so we can assume that budget is no problem. Then Dan Rather stepped up to give his speech. (To set the scene, this is a totally private location and the function room has around 150 of the top brass from this particular company and its guests.)

I was sat behind the screen, about six feet back from Dan and at that point my job was simply making sure his mic didn't start howling. Dan's speech was 100% centered on the US election and had a rather serious tone to it, a few quips here and there, but mostly serious and direct. Here's what he had to say (I'm paraphrasing, but quoting almost verbatim)

"People tell me all kinds of things off the record...and when McCain is president, he's got a few issues to take care of straight away and one of those is Iran...for security reasons McCain is going to have to take care of Iran...some things like that we just have to take care of..."

Straight from the proverbial horse's mouth, and addressing a somewhat elite crowd of bankers whose blurb used the figure $12.9bn and whose tentacles reach god knows where. I know its only a commentary, but its a worrying one.

welcome, whistleblower!

this is interesting of course, but the funny thing is, just like with bush & cheney, why don't people just believe them when they say publicly exactly what they intend to do?

this has been the story of the bush presidency. so transparent.

mccain already did his sick little acapella a long time ago. i believed him then. no inside info necessary.
