I am looking to get a pair of small condensors for my studio. Right now I am
liking the idea of Josephson c42s. Right now my problem is that I already
have plenty of cardiod mics(421s,4033s,m201s,MG930,re20,etc.) but no sd
and no omnis.I do not want to buy mics I will not be happy with. Does anyone
know much about the shure ksm 141, or other sd's with omni capsule options
that are somewhat affordable and do a good job with both patterns?

I am pretty sure you would be happy with akg 451's. You can buy any capsule you want for them. Pricey though. What is your price range. Maybe check out peluso. I used to be half owner of all those mics, weird. I just picked up a beyer m160 for $425 brand new. I am pumped.

Awesome deal on the on the 160,I am considering getting rid of
the m260 and the m500 for a pair of 160s. Yeah i'm shure the
AKGs would be fine but$$$. Sounds like alot of people are liking
the ksm 141s,snare,ac.gtr,etc, plus omni to maybe use in the
room,ugh.

You can't go wrong with either the 141's or the C42s. The 141 is more useful on a wider range of sources (high SPL tolerance) but the C42 is more delicate and detailed. Both are great.

+1 on the 141's. A great deal for a versatile mic. I like a pair as overheads in xy position.

i think your budget plays a big part here.

i've got a pair of c42's that i love, but i had to stretch my budget to get there in the first place.

tape op completely shat their pants over the mercenary km-69, but those are twice the price of the c42's.
