"Centerfold" is a brilliant song, and I hope to cover it someday, if I can sucker other people into playing it along with me.

Having lived in Detroit, this band was ruined for me. I intellectually understand the goodness of "Centerfold" and "Freeze Frame" but am unable to listen to it lest Handsome Dick Manitoba/Rob Tyner style white man afros and drunk frat boy assholes screaming "Wamma Jamma" Detroit WRIF memories start flooding back. So, respectively, fuck that.

J Giles resides in my "bands like the Cars who write good pop but cannot be listened to by me" file.

I don't think I've ever heard that. I just know the terrible, terrible hit of theirs. Gaah.

It's the only time they've written anything in the league of The Replacements...and I'm not a big fan of The Replacements.

Godawful? You got some 'splainin' to do.

Tom Verlane's voice sounds like a bunch of bullshit. I've always dug the musicianship and guitar interplay but dude's voice is just godawful.

Fair enough. His voice is polarizing, though I think he did the best he ever did with it on his solo Flash Light. Ever heard the version of "Little Johnny Jewel" on the Blow-Up live set?
