kicks serious honky ass.

A. This is so embarrassing to admit, but I've never heard the original, only the Perry Farrell/Ice-T duet on The Gift

H-GM, I'm pretty drunk, just skipped through the rest of this thread looking for you to correct youself because you're up there in the top 'DRC is drunk' best posters around here: GET A VERSION of Sly And The Family Stone sorting this out; it will sort more out than you can imagine.

The classic footage, fully on Youtube but I guess down to Ed Sullivan or something, is the stunned whitey audience faced with Sly and Co. So far from cynicism, so near to real life; so wonderful.

+1.

Randall, for the love of whatever deity you may or may not worship, please listen to it. It's great. (It's not the best song Sly ever did by a long shot, but it's still great.)
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

I guess mostly when I hear it in pop/rock/punk/whatever songs, it doesn't really shock me too much or make me think.

But I remember a christmas early in college when I'd gotten a present of Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. I was driving back to school, listening to it, and of course I'm singing along...

Now they got me in a cell cause my records, they sell
cause a brother like me said, well,
Farrakhan's a prophet and I think you ought to listen to
What he can say to you, what you ought to do is
Follow for now, power of the people, say,
Make a miracle, D, pump the lyrical
Black is back, all in, we're gonna win

...here I was, pretty damn white, cruising across the frozen hinterlands of Wisconsin. I'm relating to this? I'm relating to this...it gave me pause, anyway.
Hey. My name's Josh.

I'm 6/80ths the way to #1.

Authorities - I Hate Cops

Verse one: "I hate cops, they're all fucking niggers."

lyric sheet says "piggers," but I've listened to the song a thousand times and there's no way.

MDC - Dead Cops
Negative Trend - Mercenary
X - Los Angeles

All I can think of right now. Oh yeah I think there's a few Skrewdriver songs too.
