badly prescribed Prozac helped to fuck me up a lot more than was necessary.
changing my social circumstances, nice drugs, support and laughter sorted me out. did briefly get into techno though so it wasn't all good.
i retain a deep hatred for the doctor involved. it's not just me as he is widely known as a bit of a cock. i suspect that more than a few will applaud the announcement of his eventual death.

263Lots of antidepressants/mood stabilizers are notorious for decreasing sex drive AND making people gain weight. So if you don't really need 'em, why the fuck would you want to take them? So many potentially negative side effects. Seems some doctors aren't doing such a great job of informing their patients about this kind of stuff. And, I mean, how many people do more than scan the info on the label of a bottle of prescription drugs? How many people even look at it?

264How about Depression and Anxiety? I understand depression can be a result of personal factors that need to be dealt with, but anxiety seems to be more random. People often don't know what causes them anxiety.
I would say that pills for depression are less necessary and carry far more negative side-effects then pills for anxiety.

Don't get chumpatized!

265Some people really need antidepressants because they have a biological problem with depression. Some people don't and need to deal with the other issues that might be causing their depression. I thought I might be the former, but I'm probably the latter.
I took a few different antidepressants for a year and they did very little for me. The side effects and withdrawals can also be insanely bad. NEVER EVER go off an anti-depressant cold turkey. And even when you wean very off gradually, some (like Effexor or Paxil) still have bad withdrawals. I vote "Crap" until the pharmaceutical companies stop sucking and come out with better drugs.

266i'm going to have to go with crap personally, but i know this is a minefield issue that gets people defensive and emotional (though probably not here i guess...), and realize whatever works for someone else is just fine. but they were not for me.
i don't wanna post any more comments 'cause if i do my status will no longer be "courtesan."

267Antidepressants are some of the more offensive by-products of the American mass-exploitation scheme which rots souls nation-wide.
Studies show that their effectiveness is marginally more significant than that of placebos. They're also addictive and extremely expensive for those who don't have Blue Cross/Blue Shield or something of its kind.
Millions of people spend billions of dollars annually on tiny, pink, ineffective pills which are ostensibly able to make them happy and alleviate their stress and loneliness.
I spent a year on them a while ago and felt no real effect at all. I'm much happier without them than I ever was on them.

If you are happier without them, then maybe they affected you.
Maybe they made you less happy.
Saved my balls, taking Lexapro for a year or so. I needed it. Maybe it was all placebo effect, but whatever. It worked.

Truth, they are crutches... but some people need crutches their entire life because their legs just don't get better.... Basically, I went in for the whole psychology thing (when I got my degree in it) and came to one conclusion: Some of america's pharmacology companies wanted to help and others wanted to turn a massive profit. You can guess who won out.
Stay away from drugs kids. Unless you REAALLLY like em. *shrug*

Maybe so.
Never took Lexapro, so maybe that's a decent one.
I just have a problem with how nonchalantly these drugs are handed out, with the (intentional) addictiveness of them, with how costly they are, etc.
