I've got sweet basil, purple basil, tuscan blue rosemary, garlic chives, dill, greek oregano, lavender, chocolate mint, and catnip (for the neighbourhood kitties) growing. I'll probably start the thyme and Siam basil this week. My zucchini and yellow squash are producing fruit and my cherry tomatoes are starting to ripen at the moment. I wish that I had planted some eggplant or peppers. Next year...

I'm very shaky with gardening in the new climate out here in California. However, I can't imagine not keeping some sort of garden. I still feel naked without my darling epiphytes surrounding me.

I have no idea when to harvest this one eggplant that's started. I read online that you harvest it when you can press on the skin and it gives but rebounds. This one does that, but it's not even as big as my fist yet. I'd like to get it off the plant as early as possible, 'cause I think it'll help the other fruits that are trying to emerge.

Patience, patience. I hear harvesting eggplant at just the right time is tricky, since they get full of seeds and thus pretty bitter if you wait too long.

Dude, I wish my wife liked eggplant, I'd make some mean parms.

We got her garden box built and filled this weekend. 19 bags of topsoil and a few bags of the 'good stuff' She has a ton of seeds on order so in a few weeks we'll be able to plant some fall veggies.

I'm starting to wonder if they are mutant super deer...I love animals and am against hunting purely for sport, but the population here is really out of control. I don't see why birth control can't be used by the county. It's fucking annoying as hell...
