We have very, very similar tastes, but in addition to that, I've undoubtedly been influenced by them.

So much of what they do is stuff no one else would ever come up with, and it's often quite complex, but it also seems totally effortless. They are dedicated to pursuing whatever they hear in their heads, even if it's hard to play or otherwise cumbersome to reproduce.

I have taken a lot of inspiration from that approach, even if I'll never be as picky as they are.

Funny.

I clicked the link to the Band of Horses video. It wouldn't load and wouldn't load and wouldn't load. I got pissed because I wanted to hear it so I googled for the MP3. I found it and started playing it. As I was listening I was like, fuck this is weird. Why do they have like 9 drummers and why does that dude have some echo thing on his voice. WTF this is bad. Then I closed it out because I was pissed and the music was still going. Turned out the youtube video had started in a different screen so I was hearing the song from two different spots.

After all that I didn't think it sounded too bad. I like Band of Horses though.

The New Year still rules all.

They would take that as a compliment of the highest order.

Those dudes love that record. As do I!

Glad to hear that. It is my favorite 'Top record as well.

Oh yeah, very excited to hear the new TNY record. The new songs sounded great when I heard them live last year.

I've been listening to "the Company I Can Get" probably 10 times a day on KEXP.org's archives. As I saw them play this in Dallas as a duo, I kinda started to think that maybe one day they'd break music. Like somehow the musical project man's endeavored since the first drum or grunt song would just be done because *THE* perfect song had been written. In the same way "post-rock" implies we've moved past rock. Maybe they'll just achieve some sort of musical critical mass. Maybe they could just change their name to Wyld Stallyns.

I'll get off my knees now.
Our band.

As I fool around more with songwriting (or attempting to) I find myself listening to stuff and dissecting it while I do. Picking apart the threads and figuring out what I like, what I want to try, stuff like that.

I like picking apart Kadane songs. They are deceptive and fluid, and I hope some day my songs will be too.

I love their lyrics. Every 90+ degree day, I think of the first few lines of "Disease" and head for the a/c.
I make music/I also make pretty pictures
