Many times this will get you arrested.
OK - I also want to address this...
Getting arrested is a fucking hassle, obviously... but just focusing on "not getting arrested" is very short-sighted.
In the U.S. at least, I am not willing to gamble like that.
Which is worse?:
a) getting arrested, and then getting let go later because it was just B.S.
b) trying to avoid the hassle of getting arrested, but accidentally saying too much or doing the wrong thing and now you're arrested anyway, AND now you already have shit working against you when it's time to go to court
ALSO:
I got a buddy right now, been without a driver's license for YEARS. Tons of hassle going back and forth between DMV/state offices and lawyers and a bureaucratic nightmare of drug/alcohol evaluations and counseling sessions. His big crime was having a few beers and then going off the road and smacking into a highway fence/railing with his truck. Minimal damage to his truck and the fence/railing. No other vehicles involved. No other people involved. No personal property involved. Nobody was around even to see him do it. No witnesses at all.
ANY lawyer would advise you to just get the hell out of there. Or maybe leave on foot, go home & sober up, and then come back for your vehicle later the next day. But because my buddy there believed in "manning up and being honest" he stood there by the vehicle and waited for police to show up so he could lay the entire truth on them.
Now at the same time, I also have two other ex-coworkers/acquaintances who have been actually caught red-handed as DUI and had their licenses back in the blink of an eye (plus a few $$$ and some mandatory classes). One was actually discovered by police themselves as he was quite trashed drunk and swerving on the highway like a fool, the other guy bounced off of some cars before flipping his own car into a ditch before the police could get on the scene.
The punishments here in no way fit the crimes.
My good buddy in the first example above just fucked himself in the ass, super-hard, because he volunteered every little detail to the police, thinking it would somehow come out better to be honest.
Believe me when I say he is kicking himself now. There is a lot he has missed out on over the last few years by not being able to drive.
He could have been commuting to a better college, he could have lined up some type of job for some pocket money, he might have been able to partake in more hobbies, he might have even been able to meet a lady and take her out on a date sometime.
It's like his life has been stuck on "pause" for a mini-eternity (this might not make sense to those who live in major cities where public transportation is the norm and nobody expects you to drive or own a car - but live anywhere else and you know how important that driving is to your whole life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, etc.)
Don't ever tell on yourself to the police, people. No good can come of it.
