Building a platform to minimize latency.

1
I'm building a new PC to run my Cubase SX3 home studio. I'm still using a Presonus FirePod and don't to upgrade to the new Presonus model. I would like to minimize my latency.

What should I do when selecting:
1) Processors (core numbers, cache sizes, etc.).
2) Random Access Memory (CAS latency, RAM size, etc.).
3) Motherboards.
4) Anything else I haven't thought of.

Latency is mostly caused by the ram buffer settings of the audio card itself, and only a little caused by the software itself. If your processor is pretty fast, and you gots enough of the ram thingies, you should beable to run your software with low enough buffer setting to make the latency unnoticeable.

I run 2 Delta 1010s on a dual core 3.6 Ghz with only a Gig of ram (ddr400) and have about 6 ms of latency at 48K. Half that at 96K. Also you could try experimenting with through monitoring. I am not sure if the firepod does that but with a mixer or splitter cables it can be done.

PC. shit is cheap, shoot for as much as you think you can get away with. You can never have too fast a processor or too much ram.

I have been having problems finding Mother Boards with more than 2 PCI slots as of late... fucking lame.
