What a great meal.

Even the regular a'la carte nigiri pieces incorporated unusual ingredients like fresh herbs and special seasonings. Especially good were the toro tuna tartare with deep-fried shrimp spring rolls, and the white tuna/crab makimono.
We had a fine daiginjo sake with dinner and for dessert I tried shochu (Japanese rice whiskey) for the first time. It was very smooth, with a very subtle flavor, and not quite as strong as American or Scotch whiskies.
The desserts were amazing as well. ERawk had an asparagus pudding atop a patterned array of sauces; strawberry puree, chocolate syrup and cognac-flavored cream and topped with raspberries. I had the black sesame flan with sweetened basil seeds, cherries and filaments of caramelized sugar. Both desserts were delicious.
What a great meal.

Asparagus pudding? I love asparagus, but man that sounds awful. Not to insult you, i'm sure it was good. I'm just having a hard time picturing that. But then again, i'm an idiot when it comes to food.
