I didn't realize how vague this was but after reading it, yep, pretty vague. Harvey Milk is very heavy but jump all over the place. They occasionally throw in something that would fit in on a Stevie Ray Vaughn album, but somehow its not horrible. Singer is way more subtle with putting the classic rock in there.
I think this thread is probably a lost cause though. Something that choogles that otherwise wouldn't choogle? I don't know. Sorry.

12It shouldn't be a lost cause, though. You've brought up something that I find pretty intriguing. This topic begs for further investigation.

13Stoner metal. The pentatonic riffs are stolen from blues, but they manage to reinvent it. Weedeater does a great job. Iron Monkey, and Eyehategod, also.

I think Cheap Trick did that real good real early on, and so does Al Johnson.

Hmm, my difficulty with this thread is in defining "classic rock" and whatever the later genres are. I would have thought of Cheap Trick as classic rock. What genre would you call Cheap Trick? What bands would you consider classic rock?

This is a much better description of what I was going for.
I tried looking up the Harvey Milk song that I thought was the best example, but that one is straight up Stevie Ray-esque the entire way through. In a good way though. I like most of these suggestions so far, Silkworm is great, I love stoner metal but haven't checked out those specific bands, and me and Cheap Trick are begining to get along. I might also reluctantly check out The Arcade Fire again.

That is if straight up ruling the world was a key element of classic rock.
