Adopt the language of morons, get called on it.
Hate or don't hate, I really don't care. That's your problem. My problem is what I see of you. What you do and what you say is all I care about, because other things, not being communicable, aren't my business.
When you choose to slur, I may have some idea if you mean it or not. The more I know you, the better my idea.
But outside of a very few examples of humor, I call a slur a mistake. Of all the things you could say or do, this is what you pick? Okay, but make a shitty choice, live with the repercussions.
And what exactly are the repercussions? Sure, many feel righteous indignation that is inherited and doctrinaire, spewed on cue with a ferocity that betrays a judgmental preoccupation with a group identity (anti-racist, progressive, etc.). And this as-one bleating is, like all bleating, noise.
But is entirely possible to repudiate slurs without having the slightest personal involvement in the slur, or in any group, or with any wider doctrine.
Slurs try my patience. They are signals to stop accepting input. They're credibility demerits. None of these thoughts assigns me any baggage - I just pay attention to what is said and done, and lament the human noise found therein.
Threats are dumb, but no less dumb than slurs. But I'd rather nobody around here hid behind what Horuss/AJ said as if his mistake is some kind of criticism shield.
At this point, it's time to mention that Sup, the lead apologist for slurs in this thread, has for a very long time here written and keeps writing stupid things about darker-skinned and spanish-speaking people. I find it weak and if I never read another one, I wouldn't mind one bit.
I just want to mention that anyone who denies my objection to this as some kind of groupthink is invited, in light of what I expressed above, to get fucked in the eye. I (alone and independently) object, I (alone and independently) find it stupid.
See how that works? I have a standard, and I use it.
Adopt the language of morons, get called on it.
