my voice tends to crack. not like a high pitch crack, but static like, it breaks pitch when I'm switching lower, or higher notes. maybe I should just record it, and link it here, that might help with some input on it maybe.

To start with, it's worth-while to look up a good voice teacher and take some lessons, even if it's just for a little while. Almost all of these people are very show-tune oriented. Don't let that frighten you. You'll most likely be doing a lot of vocal and breathing exercises and the feedback from an actual teacher is really useful. The fundamentals are pretty universal. You can probably record the lessons and practice them on your own.

That aside, this is actually a pretty good book believe it or not. It comes with a CD: Complete Idiot's Guide to Singing

This is a good CD of vocal exercises I use a lot. You can get it from itunes too: Voice Lessons to Go

Hope that helps.

Singing involves a lot of psychology obviously, but it involves a whole lot of phsyicality as well. The muscles used for singing need to be strengthened and trained. Some folks just figure out a way subconciously and sing a whole lot, others make good use of some training.

The problem you mention above is a familiar one but maybe instead of focusing on that issue, you might want to consider a comprehensive approach. Whether you do some kind of lessons of just start singing a lot, strengthening your voice physically and getting comfortable psychologically are the important things. Otherwise, it's a bit like someone trying to lose their gut by "targeting" their abdomen and doing 50 sit-ups everymorning but not much else. That said, there are exercises that do adminster to register breaks and so on, but they're part of a bigger picture.

But look I'm no David Hasselhoff....
