Isis - Oceanic: Layered and diverse.

I kinda prefer Isis' SGNL5, which I listened to about 10 times this last weekend. Not as 'cheesy' as Oceanic to me for some reason.

But my new favorite has to be Harvey Milk and their record Courtesy and Good Will Toward Men. Really slow stuff that's really dynamic. The singer's voice has a great raspiness to it, but the thing that gets me smiling is that they seem to love to make you wait and wait for the 'cool part'. It just makes all the other parts even better, and when the 'cool part' does show up, it makes it even more effective.

I'll second the reccommendation of Aquarius Records, and mention that Andee (who runs Tumult records and was the drummer for A Minor Forest) works there. He's somewhat of an encyclopedia of metal.

Loincloth is the shit. My number one recommendation as far as recent metal goes is Gorguts' "Obscura" album.

What does everyone think of the recording on "Roots" and the first couple of Korn albums (similar crew on all three, I believe, definitely similar sound). I think those albums sound excellent.

why do people lose the ability to describe music informatively once theyre talking about rock or metal?

wihtout descending into a rant about shite journos, i'll just ask why say "will rip your fucking face off" when you could say something that might actually describe it?

thanks, but my comment was more to do with the way people speak , rather than about the band itself.

HOF are the only band you need for heavy stuff. warhorse would be up there if it wasn't for the awful production where they've done that thing where the vocals are so loud it makes the band sound like they're playing really quietly in comparison (see Pond, Bardo). Isis as well have the heavy sound but forgot any actual good bits. HOF are absolutely killer.

You lost me there.

That's the link to a very above average zine that covers the genres you mentioned, I think he does a good job of being clear and descriptive w/ metal, HC, etc.
