I called an old friend "tubby" recently, and though he didn't seem offended by it at first, the rest of the day he kept alluding to my earlier observation in a joking manner. You could tell it got to him. I felt bad, but poking fun in a genteel way about weight gain, getting older, graying hairs, losing hairs... that's in the constitution, right? Besides, he ran into another old friend of ours some time ago and told me it looked like he ate the younger version of his self.

Sill felt bad, though.

I pulled out the "Dude is that a bald spot on the back of your head?" the other day. Freaked the guy right out, which was funny, since there wasn't a bald spot on the back of his head.

All that's cool stuff to say, as far as I'm concerned. Not Crap.

I dunno, not crap i guess. I mean, i joke all the time about my ever-growing dude-tits, and here in Wisconsin i still look on the thin side compared to many, so go ahead, call me fatty.

Depends on the context it's done in.

Between friends, it's ok, as long as someone doesn't go on and on about it all the time. One guy here at work pokes funs at me about the weight I've gained in the last few years. Usually, I just brush it off. When it got really obnoxious once, I told him he was developing a bald patch on top of his head. Shut him up pretty quick.

At an awards ceremony for work once, when I was getting a plaque for being here 25 years, the person presenting the plaque to me, who was the plant manager at the time, made mention during the presentation of my weight gain over the years, and really said nothing much else about my service to the company over the years. I guess he thought it was a roast or soemthing. Boy, was I pissed. I said nothing, but took off as soon as I could.

Fucker no longer works for the company. He was fired about 8 months ago. I think part of the problem was that his "people skills" were kind of lacking.

I'm quite sure men are just as concerned with body images as women are, just not as outwardly so. No matter how old I get I'm still just a kid with skinny legs (until I make enough money for these). Think I won't?

However sensitive we are about these issues, I think it's perfectly fine to bust-balls.

Giving someone shit about gaining weight is no big deal. 9 times out of ten they did it to themselves. If they wanna loose weight they just have to make a lifestyle change. I'm talking about people who gained weight over time, not people who have a history of problems with their weight.

So yea, give them a little ribbing. Hell maybe that will be the catalyst to get them to a gym.

I don't think I would ever mention someone's recent weight gain unless they brought it up or we were having some kind of throw down.

I was far more neurotic about things in my twenties. People in their thirties on should let go of the vanity and narcissism a little bit.

Granted, weight gain is one of the things people can get a handle on a bit. I mean, making some small attempt to eat a little better and exercise a little more can't hurt, so if you're teasing prods them, well...

I dunno...I have a weird metabolism and fluctuate like crazy. But when I'm fat I definitely hear about it.

By me, it is not to be mentioned.

People know if they're getting old or bald or fat or whatever.

Even if they joke about it themselves, I wouldn't go there, unless there was a serious health reason to bring it up.

Even then, it's touchy.

I know people I'd love to see lose or gain weight, b/c they're great people and they have expiration dates stamped on their foreheads right now. But I know they know, and I'd have to feel there is an urgent reason to push the matter to do that.
