Argentina: tips

If you can spare a couple of days, Montevideo is also an option; I didn't have the time for the longer journey when I was in Buenos Aires, which I regret. I'm pretty sure that you can get to both from the ferry terminal in the centre of BA.

Colonia is charming.

I bought an inflatable intertube that was shaped like an ostrich in Colonia.

You should totally buy an inflatable ostrich to float around in.

Can't believe I didn't take that thing when I moved out....

Damn.

The only thing I remember buying there was an excellent seafood meal at a cute restaurant that might have overlooked the water. Though it might not have. This is a helpful tip, I know. I also remember painting the walls with shellfish soup due to a malfunctioning shrimp, but hopefully they have cleaned that up now.

A final recommendation, and probably a completely inappropriate one: if you want to have your mind blown, have the time, and are willing to shell out the cash for a flight to Iguazu and back, I really, really, really encourage you to do so. The waterfalls, the Foz do Iguazu are stupendous. I have not seen a more spectacular natural sight or heard a more brain-emptying sound than I did when I saw the Garganta del Diablo.

Probably not practical, but if you can spare the time and money... The rainforest around it pretty cool too.

I really want to go back to Argentina.

This is a great thread because I vowed once and for all that I will go to this magic land by February.

Aside from Buenos Aires, what are the must see places if you have a couple weeks there?

If you are vegetarian is this country as difficult as, say Mexico, or Spain?

Can be done, at least in BA, no problem. I even know a few vegans who don't complain about being limited in their choices. There are lots of Chinese vegetarian buffets if you need something outside of the usual AR veg options (vegatable empanadas, calabaza dishes, pasta).

I can't fathom what it'd be like at a real actual world cup match. The crowd chants were so sophisticated too. I swear everyone in that country has a perfect sense of rhythm. Fun.
