awful song: Lido Shuffle

Haha! My instinct was crap, but this is strangely irresistible. I don't understand it.

I didn't realize I'd heard this song before until I clicked on the link. Now I'm wondering if I've ever heard any other Boz Scaggs songs.

I might like this song okay if they lost everything but:

- the synths
- the drums
- the bass
- the backup singers; as perdothegit said--leave them on stage, but without the actual singing
- most importantly, Jeff Porcaro's shriek a few seconds into the song

These two bits from Mr. Ralph's post impressed me because lately I've been fascinated by a lot of stuff that might vaguely fit into these categories, redundant as that might seem. Rafferty, 10cc, Steely Dan, other studio nerds whose music just sorta drifts in and out, trying carefully not to disturb anyone yet bordering on creepy in its perfection. Like I said, I'm fascinated by it, but I'm not quite ready to commit to liking it.

I think "marina rock" was J.D. Ryznar's catch-all term for that eery AOR session hotshot rock that didn't quite make it to the smooth upper "yacht rock" echelon... could be wrong, though.

I'm not sure I've heard it referred to as such. That's pretty good, though I prefer my friend Todd's characterization of it "cocaine hot-tub" rock. Baker Street serves as the prime example of "cocaine hot-tub" rock in this friend's estimation.

Just found these and confirmed that the lyrics to this song are incredible and great.

At a tombstone bar in a jukejoint car he made a stop
Just long enough to grab a handle off the top
Next stop Chi-town, Lido put the money down, let it roll
He said, one more job oughta get it
One last shot 'fore we quit it, one for the road

Lido, whoa, he's for the money, he's for the show
Lido's a waitin' for the go
Lido, whoa, he said, one more job oughta get it
One last shot 'fore we quit it, one more for the road

Lido be runnin' havin' great big fun until he got the note
Sayin' toe the line or blow it, and that was all she wrote
He be makin' like a beeline headin' for the borderline
Goin' for broke
Sayin' one more hit oughta do it, this joint, ain't nothin' to it
One more for the road

Lido, whoa, he's for the money, he's for the show
Lido's a waitin' for the go
Lido, whoa, one more job oughta get it
One last shot and we quit it, one more for the road
