It shows EXTREMELY poor judgement from a person applying for a job where their judgement is the number one issue. That's why it matters. It's not that he did it, it's that he was stupid, impulsive and arrogant enough to do it when the eyes of the world are upon him. Real dumb move from someone who wants a job where real dumb moves can cause absolute disaster for scores of people.

So if he did get the nomination, guess what? He just handed the presidency to the fucking republicans. Complete moron, should be thrown to the curb by the party.

I agree, but let's be realistic here: the majority of our country's population doesn't. Had Edwards won the nomination, he wouldn't have just handed the presidency to his Republican opponent; he would have also killed the Democrats' chances down-ticket. The ramifications would have been huge and ugly.

Furthermore, it's not like Edwards had a long history of managerial excellence or a long list of significant legislative achievements or even Clintonian charisma. His candidacy already had serious flaws, but there was also serious concern among rank-and-file Democrats about the electability of his black and female opponents. He would have been a weak but safe candidate--John Kerry, v. 2.0.

No, his affairs don't matter to me personally. I'm not offended by them. I'm hugely offended by the recklessness with which he ran his campaign.

Edwards said that his wife has known about the affair since 2006 (which is the year it began and ended - again, according to Edwards). If she did know this, I can't imagine she was thrilled about him running again, because she's smart enough to understand that it would bite him in the ass eventually. But maybe that's what she wanted. Oh, sweet revenge.
