3Overheads- Good ribbon mic- (royer or other good quality)
Snare- Altec 175 or Shure KSM 141
Hat- don't use-
Toms- ATM-405 or e22 or SM7
Acoustic guitars- Some kind of good LDC or sometimes a good dynamic- they all sound so different so it really varies- Lately I've been using a pair of russian CMV-563 knock offs I got last year that sound really good-
Guitar clean/dist -Lately I've been using RCA74b and Lauten FC-357 Clarion-
Bass- Beyer M380 or TX-50
Vocals Soft or normal- Best Tube LDC you can get your hands on- Here we have a U47 and a Soundelux 251
Vocals- Hard/cookie monster- SM7
Piano- best pair of LDC's or SDC's you can get your hands on- we don't have a working piano so I have not mic'd one in a few years to be perfectly honest. The last time I did mic one it was a pair of AKG 414's

Yeah, but only vintage for me. Those 57s from the early 90's sound amazing...and it's unfortunate that this thread hasn't received more serious responses.

I have never recorded with a plethora of microphones at my disposal, so I really am unfit to reply. Still haven't been able to establish a grail of microphone choices.
