I'm going, if only to watch the indie kids squirm while Prurient plays.
Xiu Xiu is great live, though.

22I heard one Xiu Xiu song I thought was real cool, I have looked for others but it's all a bunch of bullshit so far

Kind of the idea I go for with a lot of my stuff, I'd sing less like a wuss and there's be no pretty anything to it but I like the noisey casio sound

That's a good'un.
I'd recommend an album or something, but none of their albums are consistent enough to say "This one is great through and through" I think. Except maybe La Foret. So here's five songs of theirs I like a whole bunch:
"Hives Hives"
their cover of "Ceremony"
"Apistat Commander"
"Crank Heart"
"Muppet Face"

26i like Fag Patrol a lot. And the last three albums they did are real good. not crap. seeing them this month in nyc.

27I like some of their music but that dude writes the most embarrassingly terrible pseudo-gothic bullshit lyrics. I tried a few times but they always get to me and I just can't enjoy the experience because of it.
In the live arena sometimes they seem like a terrible practical joke on their own audience. On record some of their songs have momentum and a sense of rhythm. I've seen versions of these songs where they are reduced to singer-dude stabbing at minor notes on a keyboard and literally whining into a microphone for minutes at end. You actually feel like it's some kind of Spinal Tap for fey indie boys at that stage.
Sorry, Xiu Xiu. I like your name and very, very occasionally your music but you are a silly band! It is silly to like you! CRAP, some waffles.

29Have mixed opinions on this band as well. "Suha" is a really sad song. Will abstain from voting before choosing either c/nc.

30Have seen them a few times. Nice people, different group every time, always Jaime and I think her name is Caralee. Yeah, Caralee.
First time I saw them as a two-piece, they were extremely energetic and intense, interacted with the audience, and almost looked as if they were having fun, which is weird when playing such melodramatic purposely depressive music. The second time I saw them, they were fucking lame as shit. No interaction, all slow songs, no energy. In their defense, they looked pretty fucking ragged. I got yet another chance to see them with a percussionist, and this was once again, a cool show. When they don't dabble for too long in the bland, boo-hoo-hoo bullshit then they're a really interesting, good band. Too long on the dirge side of things and it gets old quick.
I like this band. Weird, sad, cool.
