At one time I would have voted animated series with no waffle but I have been re-watching the live series on Hulu and it is amazing. Way better than I remember it being.
So...
or...
Tickdome: Animated - Live Action
2The animated version was a staple of my childhood, and even though the live-action wasn't awful it couldn't touch the genius in some of the animated episodes. Plus, the animated version employed Christopher McCulloch a.k.a. Jackson Publick.

Wasn't Ben Edlund credited on the early Venture Bros. episodes?
The animated series, hands down. The live action series is one of those things that I couldn't believe existed, even after I saw it. I warmed up to it faster than I expected, but it was just missing a certain feel that I don't think is possible to pull off with real sets and actors. I guess it's worth the effort to get into if you're already a Tick fan.
Also, how annoying is it that it took them like a decade to release the animated series on DVD and the leave out brilliant episodes like "Alone Together" and fuck up the (crucial) continuity? Very.
I've been looking to pick up some of the old Tick Omnibus trade paperbacks, but they're a little overvalued these days. Serves me right for selling so much shit on a whim back when.

4Like I said, I would have been, and mostly still do favor the Animated Series. But, after watching the live episodes again it has become a much harder choice.
I originally didn't like the real life show that much but now am really sad it's gone. All 9 episodes are on Hulu.com.
I don't think the cartoons are though.

5Yeah, I agree that it was a good show, and I was sad to find out after the fact that it had such a short run. I downloaded the episodes and have watched most of them at least twice, I think. I guess the only thing I really don't like about it is the Comic Sans-ish font they used for the titles -- it looks really cheap in a bad way.

In both seasons, with more of a presence in the second, he wrote/co-wrote the episodes: "Careers in Science","Guess Who's Coming To State Dinner?" and "Viva Los Muertos".

i guess it's the jackson publick/ben edlund connection. and a lot of the villians from VB have the same sort of tick based pun names. "phantom limb" for example.
anyways, the animated series didn't age well. the live action...i'm watching again now. i'll check back in.
