This is def. true for the gtr samsamp (the box-y one) I own and if anyone can advise me on something that does anything similar to the sansamp (the box-y one) without stealing all the lows I'd be all in for that.

Really though, boys and their toys is nothing new - be it cars, golf clubs, fishing tackle, fancy electronic gadgets, men just seem genetically programmed to collect a load of stupid expensive CRAP they don't need, primarily (it seems to me) so they can argue about the CRAP's relative merits with other CRAP-collectors.

It's retarded, yes, but it has little to do with being a musician vs recording person.
I walk these streets, a loaded six-string on my back.

Agreed on the gtr sansamp. The bass sansamp, on the other hand, was quite nice on guitar and didn't suck tone. Dunno how it is on bass, though.

Also, a lot of pedals sound better if you juice the level and lay off on the drive controls a little bit. Thats how all of my pedals except the Boss FZ-2 and Zvex Machine are set.
I think if you're driving you're amp pretty hard, say for leads or whatever, you should expect to lose a bit of low end.

There are still plenty of nice people who use Fenders and Marshall and whatever else. I think there are just more Traynor/Ampeg devotees here.

Or theyre just louder than the Fender/Marshall/whatev devotees. For instance, Ive owned several Ampegs, but aside from older SVTs I am not particularly committed to them. And Ive never owned a Traynor nor do I have a lot of interest in owning one. I do love lotsa different kinds of Marshall though. That just doesnt win me any PRF cool points.

traynors seem to be the new "it" vintage amp now that every "doom/stoner/sludge/etc" dweeb is trying to buy "vintage sunn" gear. traynor is as good or better than that stuff and can be found super cheap. plus there's the purity of having some piece of gear that isn't readily available or well known to others. people love to be into stuff others don't know about.

I really like Marshalls. When I got mine, I got a fuzzy feeling just looking at the thing. Ridiculous, I know, but it felt really good having one. Sounds cool, too.
