Laney AOR maybe? Or even a Klipp, although they seem to go for decent money these days. Might even find a cheap Supergroup.

Carlsbro 50 Top?

I just bought a '74 Carlsbro 60 TC that I'm enjoying very much indeed. It has a limiter circuit that acts almost like an attenuator so you can overdrive the preamp (I'm pretty sure it's the preamp anyway...) at almost bedroom-friendly levels. It's otherwise very, very loud.
I walk these streets, a loaded six-string on my back.

If you don't mind a combo there are some WEM amps that pop up on ebay. I've got a dominator mkIII (I think) but it still has to be fairly loud to break up. It's a loud 15ish watts.

The WEM clubman looks good if you're after less loud levels - slightly less power than a Dominator (5/6watts I think) but nicely portable.

Look here for pics: http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/britamps ... club1.html

I was just typing that and got side tracked!

Look out for Laneys as they don't have the same amp geek recognition value as Marshalls etc.

This person got a good price for a Laney Supergroup (I think) - because the person selling didn't know what it was - [EDIT - just saw that it had "stopped working".]

SORRY FOLKS! This is the link

I beg to differ, I had a very nice old tube laney head (50 watt i think, it had blue writing on a silver face) with a very strange 2x12 cab with a horn shaped port (it wasn't a horn). it sounded really nice for quiet bass, and for sort of middling guitar, good break up at reasonable volume. However i was in an extremely loud band at that point and swapped it for a short scale bass. Looking back I really wish I hadn't.. Honestly I think that amp was great, I also rate the solid state linebacker series amps from the late 80's early 90's.. I was in a band with a guy who had one and it was a great LOUD amp, he always cut through playing a tele through it (it was louder than my selmer 50 watt t 'n' b for sure). I'd agree that their bass gear is lame, but their tube amps (the LC and VC series) are good value as well!

Adam I wrote:Also worth looking out for Kelly amps which are almost exactly the same as Selmers, but seem to go for less simply because the brand is more obscure. The Kelly amps were made by some ex-Selmer guy (presumably Mr Kelly?).

Tommy Alpha keeps banging on about his. He swears that they were the work of Henry Kelly.

B_M_L, you wouldn't mind hyperlinking your eBay link would you, darling?

It's making reading this page a little difficult.

Use this, if like!
