good old Holmes, chiming in to talk nonsensical trash with nothing to back it up. lovely!
I like the Laneys I've got. I used to have a couple VC30's, which are good for a cleaner-into-sorta-dirty sound that responds well to pick intensity. Now I've got three of the AOR series amps; a 50-watter and two of the PT30MV which I absolutely love. Great for dirtier, more gainy distorted sounds. The thing to be careful of with the AORs is to make sure and get a single-channel 6-knob one. They're basically like a souped-up JCM800/JMP-Master-Volume amp. I prefer the PT30MV to any other dirty amp I've played so far, including real Marshalls, and the 30W aspect makes it easy to get a good combination of preamp and power amp distortion at reasonable but still loud rock volumes.
if anybody's interested in hearing the 50W AOR amp, check out the two new songs on the Chrome Robes MySpace page linked in my signature. The guitar and baritone (one or the other used on each of the two songs) are run through a YBA-1A for the bass and treble presence and the 50W AOR for the distortion. The sound you hear is a mix of the two, but the Traynor isn't producing any distortion so it's pretty easy to tell what the AOR sounds like.
I didn't have the 30W version at the time of tracking, but if I did I woulda used it. They both sound great to my ears though.
:edit: just fyi, the bass is panned a little left (YBA-3) and the guitar or baritone is panned a little right.
