Studer A810: No hours on the clock? Edit: Battery Question!
1I just picked up a second A810 (machine 2), the S/N is 9 digits away from the other one in the studio (machine 1). Everything seems fine but it's transport hours counter is empty, machine 1 indicates 785 hours on the clock, and the condition of the heads looks to be in line with that. The heads on machine 2 look pretty much the same. How could the counter have been cleared? I thought maybe the battery on the MPU might have gone (it does look a bit crusty, and will be replaced ASAP), but the machine seems to store alignment data with no problem. I can't see anything in the manual about re-setting the clock, and it seems like it wouldn't be something you should be able to do. Besides, I'm pretty sure the guy who had it up until now would not have been able to do that anyway (the machine was locked shut so you couldn't even change the alignment when I got it.)Could this be a sign of something weird starting to happen? If you can fiddle with the clock, is there a way I could stick, say, an arbitrary 1000 hours on there, just so the machine has about the right info on itself? I'll try running some tape on it for an hour or two and see if the clock goes up at all (edit: after running tape through the recorder for an hour, the count is now 1, will try powering down for an hour and see if it clears again), seems pretty odd though...Edit: Now that the Studer list is gone, is there a better place to ask questions like this?
Don't shun it. Fun it.
