The B-ULSes, I don't have much experience with the B-XL\_\_ models. (I also like the 421s and 441s, but Kyuss didn't want anybody to say that.)

The ULS model was the last 414 with an output transformer, which makes it sound pretty different than the more recent models. They also don't have that annoying polar pattern switch that requires phantom power before it can be switched.

We have 2 of those XLS models. I think they sound fine but it is way to easy to hit those switches by accident while positioning the mic. Also the birdcage they come with blows. Even though they can hold just about any mic the threads are soft plastic and wear out very quickly. I'd rather have the old ones too.
