We're going with one mic on each instrument live to 4 tracks (1/2 inch, guitar/bass/farfisa/drums). Drummer's got some tubs and a whole lotta ride action.I know it should be in tech room, but since this thread is so FRESH and this is a current need, why not?(I may cheat with an extra kick mic, but I'd rather not).Gracias!Find an old Radio Shak PZM and go with that.Hey 30peak.This may not be totally helpful, but my first post on this forum was about doing a one mic recording with a 3 piece guitar, drums, keys and vocals band. vocals were overdubbed, but the basics were live to one mic.Granted, we got to use a neumann as the 1 mic, but a lot of the principles may still be the same. we set up in an equilateral triangle around the mic (we measured it out), matched the drums and then raised and lowered the volume of the amps to match. figure eight pattern helped in creating the illusion of stereo. straight through a light compression to a computer. done.In the end, the kick sounded like a basketball, but everything else balanced. with a 4 piece, I'd recommend setting up in a diamond pattern around the mic (2 equilateral triangles) and trying something with the nicest large-diaphragm condenser you have. Add additional mics to taste. I got into more specifics in the thread.cheers.Excellent and timely. Gracias.
