Microphones for toms

I'm hearing a lot of good talk about the AT 450s, I've never used them because I bought a really shitty Audio technica drum mic package and stayed away from the name ever since.(an ignorant choice on my part seeing as almost every company makes a shitty low grade budget package). So are they good budget mics or are they just all around kick ass mics? I mean I'm sure they sound good for the money which is always awesome, but do they sound good regardless of the price? And I'm talking a little more so in terms of overheads.Thanks,-Barrettand sorry for straying from the topic

The 450 helped a lot.I used them on toms again yesterday and didn't seem to need as much eq than with other condensers I've used.

Maybe if the kit is played with brushes and the skins are really worn...I do think they (ATM 450) are great mics, not just for the price.I've been using m160 as overheads lately...

I just bought another pair. Waiting for them to arrive. In Europe you can get them for around 380 ‚¬. Great for guitar, horns, strings, vocals sometimes, accordion, glockenspiel...
