I think the vinyl version of "Generic" was still available from Subterranean Records up to a couple years ago. They don't have the rights to release any of the old Flipper stuff on CD because the band gave the rights to all of their stuff to Rick Rubin in the early '90s. Subterranean (who were pissed about not being involved with the catalogue transfer) protested but then got sued by Def American, who made them lose a lot of money.

Anyway, not crap. "Gone Fishin" is a killer record as well.

My first hardcore show - 1987 Flipper and Bad Brains, Ritz NYC made an indelible mark on my 16 year old psyche. I rememebr Ha Ha Ha in particular. That double live album was great.

I don't like their music. It sounds hopeless and depressing to me. It's almost like the lead singer had a drug problem and was about to die.

While I don't listen to their records any music that conveys that much emotion is Not Crap.

Flipper's Generic is one of the most intense records I've ever heard. These guys were the real deal, living on the edge and staring into the void. All of the stories I've heard about them make them out to be hard-asses. I know Falconi was a Vietnam veteran.

It takes real guts to realize just how much pain there is in life, and then to transcend that somehow.

Falconi's guitar playing is so brilliant. Just this wash of noise, with melodies hidden deep inside the swirl.

When I think about what "punk" is, I think of Flipper.

i am happy and feel like a bad ass bass player..

flipper rounds my record player almost everyday.
flipper has two classic LPs.
flipper puts out great live LPs.
flipper's singles are a must.
flipper makes it feel better when its not.
flipper plays host to some musical genius'.
flipper makes me move jump and dance.
flipper kicks my ass and then puts me to sleep.
flipper would be a truly amazing live experience.
flipper speaks to me in ways most dont.
flipper is the best band ever.

and as mark prindle would say:

flipper was "a whale of a band."

If I didn't discover this band, I don't know where I would be right now. It's fucking amazing. Flipper defines and transcends punk.

I have no words to express how much I love Flipper, and how important they were and are to me.
