Mic Placement on a guitar cab

1
I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for mic placement on a guitar and/or bass cabinet. I've had success using a 57 and a MD421 slightly off axis from the speaker cone, but was specifically looking for some different ideas. I've read about using two different condensers on a cab (one darker, one lighter sounding) and have seen pics of miking closer to the edge of the speaker. I've tried some of these out with no real success. At least nothing better than the setup I've been using. Anyone care to share any techniques or preferred mics for different applications? Specifically for a loud rockin' distorted guitar? Thanks!

Experiment! Try a bunch of different positions and see what you like, where. For a super-cool and easy to keep your experiments organized and repeatable try Justin from Queens' mic placement grid tool : http://www.electricalaudio.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=53032-tim

Your presence has been long overdue! Thank you.
