Hello, I'm just curious to know some details about the way you work with your tape machine here at EA.What happens when during a take the musicians make a mistake?Do you rewind and then redo the take, or (for sound quality reason probably) do you stop and record the new take after the bad one? Maybe it's a matter of how much budget the band have at their disposal...What are the possibilities with editing?-Moving a snare hit which is way too late (for example)?-Doing punchs on a full drum kit recording?-Remove a center part of the song if the band decide not to keep it?-Anything else?Thanks

Do you rewind and then redo the take, or (for sound quality reason probably) do you stop and record the new take after the bad one? Both. It depends if you want to keep extra takes. I'm not sure how sound quality is affected. You can record over bad takes hundreds of times without the quality degrading. What are the possibilities with editing?-Moving a snare hit which is way too late (for example)?Would probably try to punch that in, or have the band play for that measure, then splice it in. -Doing punchs on a full drum kit recording?When the drummer plays to a click, it is easy. If not, more difficult.-Remove a center part of the song if the band decide not to keep it?Can do, but it makes much more sense for the band to work that out in rehearsal. -Anything else?I don't know.As a side note, you don't have to record to tape if you want to record here. We have a full Digidesign HD2 system with Pro Tools and Digital Performer as well. A lot of my sessions touch both formats, before mixing down.And that's my 3000th post!
